Lo Tayu gives Hong Kong audience feast of old songs
Last Updated(Beijing Time):2004-03-17 15:24

The godfather of Taiwan music, Lo Tayu, is finding new ways to have fun with old material. Last Friday and Saturday, the veteran musician held his debut concert, called "Making New Fun", in Hong Kong. Despite the concert's title, Lo treated his audience to a medley of familiar tunes. Let's take a closer look.

Returning to the material that made him a super-star in the 80s and 90s, Lo Tayu treated his Hong Kong audience a feast of classics. Lo says the theme of the concert is to encourage all Chinese people, especially Hong Kong residents, to recover from last year's misfortunes.

The lack of any new material from Lo did not slow the box-office, with crowds coming to hear their hero play alongside a range of special guests. Taiwan rock star Ng Bai, Lo's friend for over a decade, presented the show and for the first time performed a duet with Lo.

Luo Dayou said, "Most of my fans are over 30 years old. I think they are from three main groups, coming largely from intellectual, media and cultural fields. So I seldom see my fans whistling and waving fluorescent sticks in my concerts."

In an era when new stars shine one week, only to be forgotten the next, veteran singers like Lo can still rely on loyal fans to fill their concerts. After all, listening to your favorite songs is still a great way to make new fun.
